Sal Was Captain Tony’s older brother he has been performing all over the country since he was 17 mind reading, hypnotizing people while playing the piano he had a great act his name was a neon in two different clubs simultaneously Chicago an New Jersey you could check out all the original ads on this site pretty impressive They started just before Prohibition in 1928, I just made it to Key West for the first time in 1969 I was 13 the bar was crazy back then Sal had his mask photography studio upstairs, in another room there was the famous Captain Tony’s bachelor pad lots of crazy things went on above that bar a lot of great high stake card games, Captain Tony had some pretty good entertainment back then in the late 60s early 70s acid rock bands bongo players they say there was more action going on upstairs than down in the bar Sal had some pretty wild mask parties Tennessee Williams was there all the time The image you’re looking at here is Sal’s big slide projector he would project images on a big screen on stage downstairs in the bar while playing songs on his piano, the funny thing is I have all those original slides and projector I did two party’s already in Key West soon as this virus goes away I have big plans besides Sals imagery from the 60s and 70s there is my published works in Key West through the 70s and 80s, Sorry for all the bragging I’m in Jersey guy from New Jersey we can’t help it

Back in the 70s and early 80s I did a lot a sunset sunrise postcards in posters for Key West Florida published under Kennedy Studios also worked for the Key West citizen newspaper back then last month Lisa and I went on vacation to the West Coast of Florida I took this photo with my iPhone I guess I still got it
You will see this little guy in many of Sals photographs Besides being in the Wizard of Oz in 1939 Sal got him a job 10 years later in 1949 at the bazaar traveling carnival world of mirth after working with Sal for three years Sal negotiated a contract for him With the Phillip Morris tobacco company as their poster boy 1953
In 1943 Sal “second studio in Manhattan he did something a little different he bought a bunch of old clothes so he could dress people up like they look at the turn-of-the-century that’s my grandmother and grandfather on the left Captain Tony’s first wife and my dad aggravated sitting on the floor and my aunt Tonia On the right with her a little doll
After Sal was sent to the psychic Center and the age of 14 the Catholic Church thought he might be special They found a body buried in a box in the back of Saint Patrick’s Church in New Jersey they asked Sal to take a look at it and maybe so I would think of where it came from true story

Sal was making masks as far back as the mid-20s he actually made over 300 of them I am lucky to have about 110 of them there’s a lot of crazy stories about the masks he used them in his studios and in his mind reading acts and hypnotizing people he put a lot of crazy ingredients in the papier-mâché mix pyramid scrapings from Egypt Haitian voodoo dust Cambodian opium And then of course his secret potions from around the world I did over 100 portfolios with these masks in my different studios I had them for over 20 years now Lisa and I have 40 of them hanging throughout our house and we have the mask room trust me there is energy coming off these things this young lady right here swore she was hypnotized that was one of sales favorite masks Made in the 60s Sal was in love with a famous actor that was up-and-coming Chris Jones he passed away
