In 2002 I finally got control of my great uncle Sal’s estate thousands of original prints negatives and glass slides that’s just the photo part many publish photos as far back as the mid-30s what was really fascinating was his collection of these giant mask he made his entire life he made over 300 of them I managed to get 110 I hung up 65 of them throughout my house and studio in New Jersey whoever you were in that house there was a mask looking at you I did about 60 portfolios with the mass in the background Sal was doing portfolios with these as far back as 1937 he made some in the late 20s but not colossal like this this category on this website has a lot of our portfolios with the masks beside real New Jersey gangsters key west Pirates and of course the evil wicked night life that I captured in New York and New Jersey there is over 900 images on this category with some fascinating stories all taken by my great uncle Sal my wild grandfather captain Tony from Key West and mysel

I’m always talking about all my wild relatives on both sides of the family we have the Key West Italians a unique group of the family but one of my favorites are the Jersey shore my mom side very loud and funny my mom has 11 brothers and sisters and out of New Jersey there is the Elizabeth New Jersey crew don’t mess with us and then you have the Manhattan crew great uncle Sal wild uncle Joey that’s him here with Jackie Gleason uncle Joey has his unique claim to fame’s in the early 40s he was a golden glove boxer when he was growing up he was one of those 42nd St. pool hustlers and watch salesman in time square he eventually started performing in a band and ended up being on a Jackie Gleason show a bunch of times ed Sullivan A lot of New York Yankee games and then he played in the White House for President Johnson in the first lady I spent a lot of time with my great uncle Joey when he played at Captain Tonys with his band My second son Joseph what is the name day after him
